Abstract
This study examines the influence of Nigerian government policies on the broadcasting operations of NewCruse 92.7 FM, focusing on three key dimensions: regulatory compliance, freedom of expression, and media independence. Using qualitative data from staff interviews and documentary analysis, the research highlights how regulatory frameworks established by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) impact the station’s content production and editorial decisions. Findings reveal that while these policies aim to promote responsible broadcasting, they also impose significant restrictions on freedom of expression, compelling NewCruse FM to exercise caution in its programming. Government stakeholders indirectly influence the station’s content, as political actors often exert subtle pressure on regulatory bodies, which in turn shapes editorial choices. The study further explores how NewCruse FM navigates challenges related to regulatory constraints, financial sustainability, and digital rights protection. By adopting strategic adaptability, fostering editorial independence, and generating revenue through commercial ventures, NewCruse FM maintains its operational viability despite regulatory pressures. The findings underscore the need for media policy reform to strike a balance between state interests, journalistic freedom, and public discourse, thereby promoting a more enabling environment for private broadcasters in Nigeria.
