Assessment of Market Information Among Poultry Farmers in Kwachiri Jobe, Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State

Abstract

The study assessed sources of market information among poultry farmers in kwachiri Jobe, of Fagge local government area in Kano state, Nigeria. A multistage sampling technique was used in the selection of samples; other data were collected primarily by means of structured questionnaire administered to the respondents supplemented by interview and focus group discussion. Analysis was by means of descriptive statistics such as frequency, means and percentages. Result revealed that 49% of the respondents were within the range of 20-29 years, proportion of 43% were within the range of 30-40 years, while 7% of them were within the range of 40-49 years, 59% of the poultry farmers responded were male, while the females accounted for 40%, most of the respondents (49%) were married, while 17% of the respondents found singles, divorced constitute 13% while 19% are widow, most of the poultry farmers which accounted for 43% had fully attended both primary education and secondary education, while 23% of the respondents had gotten up to tertiary education and 48% of the respondents, 29% have acquired experience in poultry management and 51% preferred radio as a source of information, 13% were using television, only 11% have contact with extension agents, while 24% receive market information through their fellow poultry farmers
