Effect of Online Teaching With Innovative Application on the Academic Performance of Secondary School Students in Biology in Esan West Local Government Area, Edo State

Abstract
ABSTRACT
The study on the effect of online teaching with an innovative Internet app on the academic achievement of secondary school students in Biology in Esan West Local Government Area. Four research questions were raised for the study. The population consisted of all the 16 secondary school students and Biology teachers in Esan West Local Government Area. The sample for the study was 175 students which was drawn using simple random sampling, and purposive sampling techniques. The research instrument was a questionnaire and it was validated by the researchers’ supervisor and three expert from the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. The Pearson Moment Correlation Coefficient was used to determine the reliability of the instrument which was 0.78. The descriptive statistics was used to analysed the data collected.
The results indicated that the implementation of online teaching using the innovative Internet app did not lead to significant improvements in students' academic performance in Biology. This suggests that while the use of technology in education holds promise, its impact on academic achievement in this specific context was not substantial. Based on the researcher’s findings, it was concluded that the implementation of online teaching with an innovative Internet app has not shown a significant improvement in the academic achievement of secondary school students. It was recommended that a comprehensive training and professional development opportunities for teachers to effectively utilize innovative Internet apps in their teaching practices.
