Office Management Competencies Needed by Secretaries for Effective Management of Superiors in Tertiary Institutions (case Study of Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State)

Abstract
This study focused on “office management competencies needed by secretaries for effective management of superior in tertiary institutions”. Case study of Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State. Descriptive survey research design was used for the study. The population for the study comprised sixty (60) secretaries from the case study. No sample was made because of the manageable size of the population. Four (4) research questions guided the study: (1) What are the correspondence processing competencies needed by secretaries for effective management of superior in tertiary institutions? (2) What are the record management competencies needed by secretaries for effective management of superior in tertiary institutions? (3) What are the conflict management competencies needed by secretaries for effective management of superior in tertiary institutions? (4) What are the time management competencies needed by secretaries for effective management of superior in tertiary institutions? Questionnaire was used as the instrument for data collection from the respondents. Data collected was analysed using simple mean method. Based on the findings, it was concluded that office management competencies are needed by secretaries for effective management of superiors in tertiary institutions. It then recommends that organization should provide adequate funds for supervising and monitoring effective office management in tertiary institutions.
