Cyberbulling and Its Consequences on the Academic Performance of Students in Bamidele Olumilua University of Education Science and Technology (bouesti).

Abstract
The aim of this study centres on cyber bullying and its consequences on the academic performance of university students. It sought to determine the relationship between cyber bullying and academic performance of the students of Bamidele Olumilua university of Education Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI) by investigating factors influencing the practice of cyber bullying and proffer strategies to mitigate cyber bullying in the university. The participants of the study are the university students of BOUESTI who are directly or indirectly victims of cyber bullying. The population of the study comprises of (13,538) students. The study made use of the survey research method and a sample size of 200 was gotten using the simple random sampling method. The study also answered four different questions. The research findings, survey research method was used because of its peculiarity to the study, while the results were validated and analysed using both descriptive and inferential statistics by a trained research assistant. A larger percentage of the respondents concludes that there is a significant effect of cyber bullying on academic performance as revealed by the respondents 65% has been cyber bullied and 32.5%affirm that there have been changes in their grades after experiencing cyber bullying activities and it has affected their academic motivation. A strong correlation also exists social media usage and the anonymity online with cyber bullying activities. These proffered strategies to mitigate cyber bullying activities in school and its effect on academic performance by addressing its causes.
