Four research questions guided this study, which they are; (i) what are the
career prospects of Office Technology and Management graduates in the private sector in terms of remuneration; (ii) what are the career prospects of Office Technology and Management graduates in the private sector in terms of promotion; (üi) what are the career prospects of Office Technology and Management graduates in the private sector in terms of job mobility; and (iv) what are the career prospects of Office Technology and Management graduates in the private sector in terms of employment opportunities. Descriptive survey research design was used for the study. The population comprised seventy-five (75) OTM personnel, administrative officer and secretaries in Adeleke University Ede, and Osun State University, Osogbo, in Osun State. A structured questionnaire was used to elicit information from the respondents and simple mean method was used to analyze data.
Based on the findings, the study shows that
remuneration, promotion to the IT cadre/offices, job mobility and employment opportunities were the career prospects available to Office Technology and Management students in private sector. It was concluded that the career prospects for office technology and management graduates in the private sector are promising, particularly in terms of remuneration. And there are numerous opportunities for promotion to the IT cadre offices for OTM graduates. The findings recommended that Office technology and management graduates should focus on developing a strong skill set that includes proficiency in office software, project management, communication and leadership.
