Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study examines the role of Orisun FM,a regional radio station,in promoting heallh
services in le-lfe,Nigeria.Local media play a significant part in disseminating health
information and raising awareness on various public health issues, which can lead to improved
community health outcomes.Orisun FM,through its health-focused programs and broadcasts,
has become a vital platform for delivering health-related information, encouraging preventive
care, and promoting the utilization of local health services.Using a mixed-methods approach
that includes surveys, interviews, and content analysis of Orisun FM's health programs, the
study investigates the station's impact on public health awareness, particularly in underserved
communities.Findings indicate that regular listeners of Orisun FM have increased knowledge
about health services available in lle-Ife,including maternal and child health, infectious disease
prevention, and mental health support.Furthermore, the study reveals that the station's use of
indigenous language and culturally relevant programming enhances its outreach and
effectiveness among the local population. The research concludes that Orisun FM plays a pivotal
role in health promotion in lle-Ife,fostering a better-informed public and encouraging health-
seeking behaviors. The study recommends continued investment in local radio programming as a
low-cost,high-impact strategy for health education, especially in rural areas with limited access
to formal healthcare resources.
