Abstract
The research aimed to study and determine the response of maize to different rate of Panicum maximum leaf powder in terms of stems, leaves, husks, cob and grain yield. The study was conducted in the late cropping season (August 2024) at the Teaching and Research Farm of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Benin, Benin City (06° 23'58''N 5 ° 37' 45''E 94.02m asl) in the Rainforest of Nigeria. The experiment was laid out in a Randomised Complete Block Design (RCBD) and replicated 3 times. The treatment comprised five rates of Panicum maximum leaf powder (0.0, 30.0, 60.0, 90.0, 120.0 kg ha-1). Plant height, ear height, grain yield and stover yield were evaluated. The outcome of this study outlines the significant effect of Panicum maximum powder on the growth and yield of maize at 120 kg N Panicum maximum powder application. The study demonstrates the potential of Panicum maximbnum leaf powder to improve soil fertility, leading to enhanced maize growth and yield. The study concluded that the application fertilizer improved maize growth and yield parameters. It was recommended that Panicum maximum powder has potential to improve maize yield.
