Effects of Flow Diagram and Detail Chart Organizers on Senior Secondary Students' Academic Achievement in Paper Chromatography in Uyo Local Government Area

Abstract

This study on family background and physics student's academic performance in senior secondary School was informed by the paucity of research literature on the relative effects of family background variables on student's academic performance in Secondary School physics.It investigated the effects of parent's educational status, parents income and parental level of motivation on physics student academic performance.Three null hypothesis were stated and tested. The design adopted was a survey design. The sample consisted of 100 physics student drawn from two public secondary School in Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. The main instruments for collecting data was the: Student's Family Background Questionnaire (SFBQ) with reliability coefficient of 0.718 and 0.644 respectively. The observation from the results of data analysis using Pearson product moment correlation coefficient and the test of significance at 0.05 alpha level show that the three family background investigated showed an influence on physics students' academic performance. Consequent upon these observation it is recommended among others, that parents should endeavor to create a good and conducive learning environment for their children despite their socio economic or educational status.
