Abstract
Body weight and its perception play an important role in the physical and mental well-being of a person. Researches have shown poor agreement between body weight perception and actual weight which has led to adoption of inappropriate weight control behaviours. This study assessed the actual body mass index, weight perception, weight control behaviours and to identify factors influencing weight control behaviour among undergraduates.
A descriptive quantitative design was used. A proportionate sampling technique was used to select 419 male and female undergraduates in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. Research instrument was a 115-item questionnaire which was adapted from Youth Risk Behaviour Surveillance National Survey 2011 of US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Stunkard Figure Rating Scale and previous study on Body weight perception and Weight control behaviour. Data analysis was carried out using SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences Version 25.0) Software Package.
