Effects of Audio - Visual Aids in Teaching Physical and Health Education in Junior Secondary Schools in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State

Abstract
This study investigated the effects of audio-visual aids in the teaching of physical and health education in junior secondary schools in Kwande local government area of Benue State. Four (4) research purposes were set to guide the study. Based on the purpose of the study, four (4) research questions and four (4) null hypotheses were formulated to give proper guide to the study. Literature review on related works was carried out. The study adopted the descriptive survey design. Population for the study comprised of all the junior secondary schools teachers in Kwande Local Government. A sample of 100 teachers was selected for the study using stratified random sampling. A structured questionnaire designed by the researcher and validated by the supervisor was used to collect data. The data collected were analyzed using percentages, mean, standard deviation to answer the research questions, while independent t-test was used for testing the hypotheses at 0.05level of significance. The result of the analysis revealed that the entire null hypotheses were rejected. Conclusion were made that audio-visual aids significantly improve students’ learning experience, enhance students motivation towards learning, enhance leaning and re-learning and enhance teacher/students interest in the teaching/learning of physical and health education in junior secondary schools in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State. Recommendations were made among others that:(1) State Government should work in collaboration with Old Students Association in providing relevant and modern audio-visual aids that can enhance and boost students’ motivation in learning physical and health education. Also, teachers of physical and health education should make sure that the audio-visual aids are used in every physical and health education class. (2) Teachers of physical and health education should be trained and retrained in the use of audio-visual aids in order to maximize its benefits in improving students’ learning experience in physical and health education.
