Assessment of Status Awareness, Perceptions and Attitude Towards Blood Group Testing Among Undergraduate Students of Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano.

Abstract
Blood Group is one of the most important concept in the field of genetics and medicine, particularly in relation to blood compatibility, transfusion medicine, and inherited disease.
Back ground: This study aims to assess the level of status awareness and knowledge of blood group among students as well as their perceptions and toward the blood group.It investigate the knowledge and attitudes toward blood group among the study population.
methods: A Cross sectional study was conducted among undergraduate students of Yusuf maitama sule University kano.One hundred and One students were recruited using random sampling and their demographic data was collected using self administered questionnaires.Blood samples were collected from all the study participants and tested for blood group.The data obtained was analyzed using descriptive statistics.
Results: The study revealed that the most prominent blood group among Yusuf maitama sule University students is O+group according to the ABO and RH system. majority (64.5%) of the respondents were females.The modal age range was 22-25 years(56.2%). A reasonable proportion (68.7%) of the respondents have good knowledge of blood group, however only 32.7% knew their blood group.out of 101 participant 32.53% are (O+) and 14.80% are (A+), (B+) are 12.9%, (AB+) are 9.84% and (A-) are 5.9%, (O-) are 3.7%.
Conclusion: The blood group O+ was found to be the highest among the study population 92.5% of the students were found to be RH+ Recording blood group correctly and encouraging blood group in Yumsuk students is critical for life- saving.
