Students Attitude and Teachers' Competence on Mathematics Performance of Students With Learning Disabilties in Oyo, Oyo State

Abstract
The study investigated students’ attitude and teachers’ competence on
mathematics performance among students with learning disabilities in Oyo, Oyo
State. Three research questions and hypothesis were raised to guide the
researcher in the study. Descriptive survey design was used as the research
design, simple random sampling techniques was used in selecting 120
respondents for the study. The study data were analyzed using frequency count
and simple percentage (%) for demographic information while inferential
statistics of regression and Pearson product moment correlation coefficient
(PPMC) used to analyze the responses to items of the research hypothesis. The
findings of the study revealed that there is a significant positive relationship
between student’s attitude and teacher’s competence and mathematics
performance of students with learning disabilities. The study was concluded that
that students' attitude towards mathematics and teachers' competence in teaching
mathematics are significant predictors of mathematics performance among
students with learning disabilities in Oyo. It was recommended by the researcher
among others that regular workshops, seminars, and coaching programs to equip
teachers with the necessary skills and knowledge to teach students with learning
disabilities should be organized by the government and competent school owners. The researcher suggested for further research that future studies on this topic
should not be limited to only one metropolis.
