Impact of Study Habits on Biology Students Academic Performance Among Senior Secondary School in Kumbotso Zone Kano State

Abstract
ABSTRACT
The research work designed to examine the effect of study habits and academic performance among Biology student’s secondary schools in Kumbotso Educational Zone Kano State. In order to achieve this purpose, four specific objectives and four research questions were raised. However, survey method was adopted, involving a total population of all students in the study area. The research instrument employed in the study was questionnaire using a random sample of 300 respondent’s students. Frequency count, percentage and Mean statistics were used. It was revealed the factors influencing students study habit and academic performance includes home environment, peer group distraction, parent influence, and difficult tasks/topics to deal with; teachers’ consultation on student academic performance has significant effect on Biology students; students taking note on their own words, reading from note before examination, rely on cramming and try to give answers offhand are effects of good study habit and; sender difference affect study habit among senior secondary school Biology students. It was concluded that for effective study habits, student must be academically motivated through home environment, peer group, and parent influence. Teachers also need to play significance role by providing student with new materials, useful resource, regularly monitor and explaining difficult area in Biology. It was recommended that students should be exposed to academic orientation during their matriculation to encourage positive study habit; the teachers should help the students in the formation or inculcation of new materials, good study materials, time management strategies and study habit practice.
