Roles of Office Automation in the Development of Secterial Skills in Jigawa State Polytechnic

Abstract
This Study on “The Assessment of the Relevance of Office Automation on The Productivity of Secretaries” was necessitated in order to determine the relevant of core and soft office automation skills. 2 research questions guide the study. The area of study is Jigawa State Polytechnic. Secretaries constituted the population. The sample sizes of 70 were selected base on Judgemental sampling technique. The design for the study was survey research. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire divided into section A for personal Data and section B for 16 items relating the research questions. 5 point rating scale was used. The instrument was validated by the research’s supervisor and all corrections made were dully incorporated and that made the instrument to be valid. The data was collected by the researcher and with the help of two research assistants. The data was analyzed with percentage and mean to answer the research questions. The finding shows that office automation facilities, core skills and soft skills were relevant for office secretary’s productivity. The researcher concluded that office automation on Secretaries productivity in Jigawa State Polytechnic is Relevant. Among the recommendation was that the management of Jigawa State Polytechnic should employ Confidential Secretaries with postgraduate qualification. Additionally, the Secretaries of Jigawa State Polytechnic should go for further training in order to develop themselves so as to maintain their relevance in the Institution.
