Effects of Lecturers’ Strike on the Academic Performance of Students’ in Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma

Abstract

ABSTRACT

This project examined the effect of lecturers strike on the academic performance of students I n Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma. Related literatures were review to determine the effect of this strike on the performance of students. Four research questions were raised for the study. A survey research design was used for the study. The population of the study was made up of one thousand, seven hundred and sixty six (1766) students from some selected department in the faculty of Education in Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma. The sample size used for the study was 176. Questionnaire was the research instrument used for the study. Out of 176 questionnaire distributed, only 165 were retrieved successfully. Simple percentage formula was used to analyze the data. Based on the analyzed data, it was found among others that non-payment of lecturers and incentive issues causes strike in Ambrose Alli University and also strike affects the study habit of students to a very large extent. It was recommended among others that parents and guardians should inculcate a good study habit/skill in their children to enable them excel in their academics pursuit. Also, attractive remuneration, adequate financing, adherence to collective bargaining should be made available to the striking lecturers.
