Abstract
ABSTRACT
This work looked at the relationship between female immodest dressing and high rate of male marital infidelity in Amassoma, Southern Ijaw l.g.a, Bayelsa state. Here female immodest dressing contributes to a larger extent to marital infidelity amongst married men in Amassoma. Which gave room for other social problem like family crisis, child neglet and increase in sexually transmitted infections in the community. Three relevant theories were reviewed for this study, while socio-cultural theory was adopted as theoretical framework. Survey research design was used. The questionnaire and interview methods were our sources of primary data, while library researches were our sources of secondary data. The sample size is two hundred and ninety-two (292) adult individual members of Amassoma community, made up of male and female adults of 18years and above present in Amassoma community in the time of this research, this was calculated using Yaro Yamani formulae. Simple random sampling technique was used to select the respondents. Frequency table was used to present data while Chi-square statistical tool was used to test the research hypotheses, in line with the objectives of this research. There is a significant relationship between girls to women immodest dressing and men marital infidelity in Amassoma, Southern Ijaw, Bayelsa state. This study recommended, among others, The traditional leaders and council of elders of the community should make a rule against women and girls’ immodest dressings in the street of Amassoma community. They should set penalties and punishment for any woman, lady or girl who is dressing to kill in the street of Amassoma; suitable punishments like denial of the right to movement for a reasonable number of months, with option of heavy financial fines.
