Abstract
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the justification of computed tomography (CT) examinations performed on children in Enugu, Nigeria. CT scans expose patients to radiation, and given the potential risks associated with radiation exposure, especially in children, therefore the justification for these exams is important. This study aims to assess the appropriateness of CT scan use in children and identify areas for improvement in order to optimize patient care and minimize unnecessary radiation exposure. In this study, a retrospective review of CT scans performed on children in Enugu hospitals will be conducted to assess the appropriateness of CT scan use in pediatric patients. Factors such as patient age, patients sex, clinical indication for the scan, and alternative imaging modalities will be considered in the assessment. The results of the study will be compiled and analyzed through SPSS to assess justification of pediatric CT examinations and to identify areas where improvements can be made in order to optimize patient care and minimize unnecessary radiation exposure.
