Abstract
ABSTRACT
Bacteriological analysis of storage water tank was carried out in five (5) Hostels, the samples were collect in sterile bottle and transported to microbiology laboratory in Ambrose Alli University. The samples were analyzed using standard Microbiological procedures. The bacteria counts ranged from 3.2 ± 7.35 × 104 to 5.0 ± 1.63 cfu/mL.. The bacterial isolates includes; Staphylococcus aureus (30%), Escherichia coli (40%), Pseudomonas species (20 %) and Salmonella species (10%). All the hostel in Ekpoma gets water from river source. The presence of coliform in this tank water is suggested to be as a result of faecal contaminant from the water source. Why the presence of other pathogen maybe due to the fact that the tank are not frequently washed. It is advisable to wash the tank and maintain a very good hygiene at the source of the water to avoid pathogenic bacteria that are threat to human health.
