Abstract
ABSTRACT
This research work seeks to find out the Effect of Class Size on Effective Teaching and Learning of Geography in Secondary Schools of Kaduna North Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Four research questions and research objectives were outlined that guided the study. The study lucidly explained the concept of Biology, teaching and learning of Biology was also discussed. The study adopted questionnaire as the primary soure of data, a total of Three Hundred and Twenty (320) questionnaires were administered to the randomly selected respondents, but only 278 questionnaires were retrieved, hence, the analysis was based on the returned questionnaires. Descriptive statistics such as mean, standard deviation, frequency distribution tables and percentages was used to answer the research questions while inferential statistics such as Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used to test the hypotheses. The study revealed that majority of the respondents from teachers questionnaire were male, and majority of them are B.Sc/B.Ed/B.Sc.Ed holders with 54.5% and 58.2% respectively. In the same vein, majority of the respondents positively remarked that large class size means a class that contain more than the normal number of students in a class room usually above 30-40 students while significant number of respondents negatively remarked that; teachers find it difficult to pass information to the students in a large class size. From the hypothesis tested, the null hypothesis was rejected that there is no significant relationship between class size in effective teaching and learning of Biology. It was recommends that; Government should ensure that the international standard as far as teachers-students ratio is concerned; consequently class-size must be maintained and Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and philanthropist can come to the aid of our educational system by building classrooms and equipping them
