Practical Analysis of Transformer Operations Using Custom-Built Transformer Trainer for Educational Use

Abstract

This paper presents the design and implementation of a single-phase transformer trainer, a valuable tool for enhancing understanding and practical exploration of transformer principles in the Electrical Electronics Lab in the University of Uyo. It addresses the need for a comprehensive and user-friendly training devices that complements theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience. The Method outlines the development process, circuit design and trainer construction. Key considerations include measurement capabilities and flexibility to accommodate various transformer configurations. The implemented trainer facilitates critical transformer performance evaluations, including open-circuit and short-circuit tests, polarity tests and efficiency tests. Through experimentation, users can gain insights into voltage regulation, impedance matching, and efficiency determination. This research offers a significant contribution to the field of power engineering education. The developed trainer empowers students, technicians, and professionals to delve deeper into transformer operation, fostering a more comprehensive grasp of this fundamental electrical device. The work will pave the way for improved training practices and a more skilled work in the school environment
