Abstract
This study investigates the foraminiferal biostratigraphy of Well E in the Niger Delta, Nigeria. Through detailed lithological and micropaleontological analyses, 20 samples from depths of 10040 to 11256 ft were examined, revealing predominantly marine lithofacies and a Late Miocene age for the well section. Foraminiferal assemblages, which is the agglutinated foraminifera was used to identify the Paleoenvironment as bathyal. Three zones were created and compared with the Blow et. al 1979. These zones were the Quinqueloculina lamarckiana zone (Zone I), Alveolophragmium crassum zone (Zone II), and Rectuvigerina tenuicostata zone (Zone III) all correlating with the Zone N17 in the Blow et al. 1979 scheme. Based on the lithologic description and gamma ray log, it was deduced that Well E primarily indicates the presence of seals and traps between depths of 10,040 ft and 10,900 ft. These findings aid in understanding depositional environments, with implications for petroleum exploration in the region.
