Abstract
This study aimed to examine the determinants affecting the uptake of the Covid-19 vaccine in Owerri Municipal, Imo State. The study used a cross-sectional design with a sample size of four hundred (400). The data were purely primary, collected using a well-structured questionnaire. The obtained data were sorted and presented in tables using frequencies and percentages. The hypothesis was tested with Chi-Square, and the result was significant at 0.001, indicating a relationship between the level of knowledge and the reasons for accepting the Covid-19 vaccine among the respondents. The results also showed that 42% of the respondents had a family member diagnosed with Covid-19, while 58% did not. Furthermore, 27% of the respondents had at least one relative diagnosed with Covid-19, 64% did not, and 9% did not know. Additionally, 46% of the respondents had friends diagnosed with Covid-19, 42% did not, and 12% did not know. From the result, it was seen that 53% of the respondents had been tested for Covid-19, while 47% had not. The findings conclude that while the respondents had good knowledge of the Covid-19 vaccine, various factors hindered their full acceptance of it. It is recommended that the government create avenues through seminars and symposiums to conscientize the general public on the benefits of the Covid-19 vaccine.
