Spermatogenic and Hormonal Assessment of Alcoholic-Based Local Drinks on the Testes of Wistar Rats

Abstract
The study evaluated the impact of ethanol-based local beverages on male reproductive health, focusing on spermatogenesis and hormonal balance. Adult male Wistar rats were divided into groups and administered varying doses of locally brewed alcoholic drinks over 30 days. Sperm analyses (count, motility, morphology) and hormonal assays (testosterone, LH, and FSH) were carried out. Results revealed dose-dependent alterations, including significant reductions in sperm count, motility, and testosterone levels, as well as increased abnormal sperm morphology. The findings suggest that chronic consumption of certain local alcoholic drinks disrupts spermatogenesis and hormonal homeostasis, potentially impairing fertility. The study recommends moderation, regulation, and further research into the specific components of these beverages.
