The Impact of Effective Utilization of Local Government Revenues in Nigeria (a Case Study of Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State)

Abstract
ABSTRACT
This research topic was inspired by the high rate of embezzlement, poor leadership, low rate ofaccountability, general laxity ofthefinance department and corruption in local governments in Nigeria and Etsako East local government area in particular. To do this, the researcher developedfour research questions which were administered in form questionnaires to 195 staff that were selected as a sample ofthe population. Apartfrom this, secondary data was used in organizing andpresenting data collected. Tables andpercentages were used as well. The data revealed that ineffective utilization ofrevenue in the local government has created a negative impact in Etsako East local government area. The researcher therefore recommended that the revenue available to local governments should be handled by honest and accountable personnel, those who possess sound knowledge about revenue generation and utilization. The outcome would be an effective and efficient management and utilization oflocal government revenue in such a way that would deliver the needed development.
