Abstract
This study presents a comprehensive bacterial analysis of corn flour obtained
from different vendors in Umuerim Nekede, Nigeria, with a focus on assessing
safety and quality. Through meticulous sampling and laboratory analysis, total
bacterial counts were determined using Nutrient agar, MacConkey agar, and
Sabouraud dextrose agar. The results revealed varying levels of contamination
among the samples, with some showing significant bacterial growth, while
others displayed no growth or scanty growth. The findings underscore the
importance of effective food safety measures in corn flour production and
emphasize the need for consistent quality control practices among vendors.
Recommendations include implementing stringent quality control measures,
providing vendor education, strengthening regulatory oversight, raising
consumer awareness, conducting further research on specific bacterial species,
and fostering collaboration among stakeholders. By adopting these measures,
Umuerim Nekede can enhance the safety and quality of corn flour, ultimately
contributing to a healthier food ecosystem in the local community
