Abstract
This study investigated the antibacterial activity of clove (Syzygium aromaticum) extracts against some clinical bacterial isolates. Both aqueous and ethanolic extracts were prepared and tested against selected bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Salmonella typhi using the agar well diffusion method. The results revealed that clove extracts exhibited varying degrees of antibacterial activity, with the ethanolic extract showing higher inhibition zones compared to the aqueous extract. The findings suggest that clove extracts contain bioactive compounds, particularly eugenol, that possess strong antibacterial properties and could serve as an alternative to conventional antibiotics. This study supports the potential use of natural plant extracts in the development of new antimicrobial agents.
