Abstract
This Research Titled “Effectivenessof Using Different Teaching Methods toward Improving Students' Performance in Chemistry in Gwale LGA, Kano State. A Case Studyof Gwale Local Government, Kano State” The Purpose of the study is to: To identify the teaching methods used in teaching chemistry in secondary schools in Gwale LGA, To evaluate the impact of different teaching methods on students' performance in chemistry in Gwale LGA and To determine the possible teaching methods that provide better student’s performance in chemistry in Gwale LGA. This study adopted quasi-experimental design; a quasi-experimental design approximates the true experimental type. The population of this study contains twenty six (26) senior secondary schools in Gwale LGA, Kano State with total population of thirty six thousand and forty two students and teachers (36042) and one thousand three hundred and twenty six (1326) teachers. the sampleof this study is three hundred and fifty seven (357) students and forty (40) teachers. Theresearch used questionnaire titled“Effectiveness of Using Different Teaching Methods Improving Students Performance in Chemistry Questionnaire”(EUDTMQ)” and Achievement Test. Thestudy employedsimplepercentage(%)and frequency counts to analyze, present and interpret the data collected and t-test to analyze the achievement test. The finding of teaching methods demonstrates varying levels of effectiveness: GroupDiscussion Method: This method shows moderate favorability among students. However, a notable portion of the respondents expressed dissatisfaction, possibly due to challenges such as ineffective group dynamics or uneven participation.Based on the findings of the study, it is recommended that: Schools in Gwale LGA should prioritize the use of learner-centered teaching approaches, such as hands-on experiments and demonstration methods, to simplify complex concepts and engage students effectively.Teachers should be regularly trained to manage and facilitate group discussions to ensure equitable participation and maximize their collaborative benefits.Chemistry lessons should incorporate real-life examples and applications to make the subject more relatable and deepen students’ conceptual understanding.Policymakers and education stakeholders should promote the adoption of blended teaching strategies across all schools to address varying student needs and learning styles.
