Abstract
The study was anchored on the uses and gratification theory. The survey research design was adopted for this study, and data were collected through the use of questionnaire.
Findings from the study reveal that majority of the respondents are highly aware, and have a greater understanding of data journalism. Therefore, it is safe to say that journalists in Edo State are increasingly aware of data journalism due to several key factors that have shaped the media landscape both globally and locally. The study also reveals that journalists in Edo State are currently integrating data journalism techniques such as visualizations into their election reports; although the extent to which journalists integrate data journalism techniques into their election reporting practices is influenced by their access to relevant and reliable data sources. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that there should be initiatives to enhance data literacy among journalists in Edo State, including training programs, workshops, and resources focused on data collection, analysis, and visualization techniques. By equipping journalists with the necessary skills and knowledge to interpret and utilize data effectively, they can better understand the value and implications of data journalism for election reporting.
