Influence of Modern Communication Equipment and Facilities on Secretaries Productivity in Government Establishment ( Case Study of Ministries of Agriculture and Environment Osogbo, Osun State )

Abstract

The purpose of this work was to find out the influence of modern communication equipment and facilities on secretaries productivity in government establishments, case study of Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Abere, Osogbo, Osun State. The population of the study comprised of 33 confidential secretaries in both ministries. The researcher decided to study the whole population because it was manageable in size. Three research questions guided the study: (1) To what extent does modern communication influence secretary’s productivity in information management? (2) To what extent does internet and email influence secretary’s productivity in record management? (3) To what extent does modern communication facilities influence secretary performance in meeting management? Structured Questionnaires were used to collect the data and simple mean method was used to analyzed the data. The findings revealed that the introduction of modern communication facilities has increased the productivity, competency and effectiveness, this as enable them to be more competent in the organization or establishment. It was concluded that modern communication facilities revolution with the advent of modern communication equipment has contributed to the quality of work performed by secretaries in ministry of agriculture and environment. The study recommended that modern communication facilities training must be given high priorities in organisations training budgets and training calendars should be drawn to address the need for training the secretarial personnel towards becoming professionals in record management using communication equipments.
