Political Violence and Democratic Consolidation. a Comparative Analysis 1015 and 2019 Election in Katsina

Abstract

Abstract Political violence has been one of the essential characteristics of the katsina state. It is important to note the one of the indisputable fundamental factors that could ensure the survival of a successful democracy is the existence of a violence-free election, most of election held since independence have witnessed in one way or the other, one form of crises or another. These crises became more pronounced in the 2003, 2015 and 2o19 general election respectively. One of the major causes of political violence in katsina is election rigging and malpractices. Election in katsina are disrupted with all sort of anomalies such as ballot stuffing, doctoring of election result, ballot matching, intimidation of voters. Etc., election rigging and malpractices leads to electoral violence which could degenerate into political violence and this by implication hinders a flourishing democracy. Notably from the above analysis, this research work in significant to the extent that it gives an insight on how the menace of political violence could be reduced or permanently eradicated in state. This shall be done by suggesting some recommendation capable of ameliorating the catastrophe of political violence in katsina and as well as to enhance the development of academic research and human knowledge in holistic.
