Influence of Indiscipline on Students’ Academic Performance in Public Secondary Schools in Obio/akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State

Abstract
The study examined influence of indiscipline on students’ academic performance in public secondary schools in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Rives State. The study was guided by three objectives and three research questions. The study adopted the descriptive survey design with a sample size of 200 students drawn from a total population of 2,367 students in public senior secondary schools in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. This was determined using simple random sampling technique. A questionnaire titled: Influence of indiscipline on students’ academic performance in public secondary schools in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State with a reliability co-efficient of 0.73 was used for data collection. Mean scores and standard deviation were used in answering the research questions. Findings revealed that, truancy, lateness, and absenteeism as an act of indiscipline has a significant influence on students’ academic performance in public secondary school in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. Based on the findings, it was therefore recommended that, schools administrators should set up disciplinary committee to reduce or curb truancy among students.
