Abstract
This study focused on the isolation and identification of bacteria from meat pies sold in Auchi Metropolis, analyzing two samples: Sample A from Valchi Fast Food and Sample B from a roadside vendor. Microbiological analysis revealed significant bacterial contamination in both samples, with Sample A exhibiting a bacterial count of 1.6×10^3CFU/gand Sample B showing a higher bacterial count of2.6×10^3CFU/g. Four bacterial pathogens were identified: Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus spp., Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas spp..These bacteria are known to cause foodborne illnesses, highlighting potential health risks associated with the consumption of contaminated meat pies. The higher bacterial load in the roadside sample indicates a greater risk of contamination due to likely exposure to unhygienic conditions, underscoring the need for stringent food safety measures, especially among street vendors. The study recommends enhanced hygiene practices, proper storage conditions, regular microbiological testing, and food safety training for vendors to mitigate bacterial contamination and protect public health.
