The Socio-Cultural Behaviour of Ekiti State University Students Towards Recreational Activities in Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria.

ABSTRACTThis study investigates the Socio-cultural behaviour of Ekiti State University(EKSU) students towards recreational activities in Ado Ekiti. Recreation andphysical activity are vital components of student well-being and academicsuccess, yet little research has explored the specific attitudes of EKSU studentstowards recreational pursuits and their actual engagement in such activities.Drawing on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), this research examines howattitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control influence students'decisions regarding participation in recreational activities. Employing a mixed-methods approach, including surveys and interviews, data were collected froma representative sample of EKSU students. The findings reveal that EKSUstudents generally maintain positive attitudes towards recreational activities,valuing their physical, mental, and social benefits. Subjective norms, chieflyinfluenced by peers and family, significantly shape their recreational choices.Moreover, perceived behavioral control factors, such as time constraints andaccess to facilities, impact students' actual participation in recreationalactivities. This study contributes valuable insights into the recreationalpreferences and attitudes of EKSU students, offering implications for targetedinterventions to enhance their well-being, foster a more active lifestyle, andimprove academic success.
