Abstract
This study compared the phytochemical composition of cocoyam (Colocasia esculenta) and mango (Mangifera indica) leaves obtained from Uli, Ihiala LGA, Anambra State. Using Harborne’s method, results showed higher phytate levels in cocoyam leaves (0.52%) than in mango leaves (0.30%). However, mango leaves contained more flavonoids (0.76%) and alkaloids (1.84%) than cocoyam leaves (0.43% and 1.05%). These findings suggest that both leaves possess beneficial medicinal properties due to their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds.
