Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigates the effect of applying the Islamic law in disputes resolution within Muslim communities where the use of customary law is still prevalent. It was carried out in three predominantly Muslims communities in the three senatorial districts of Kwara state. Ethnographic and doctrinal research methodologies were adopted to understand the local dispute resolution mechanisms existing in the locations of study.
It was found that the influence of Islamic law as a mediating factor in the variants of customary law in Kwara central and Kwara north senatorial district were more pronounced than its effect in the Kwara south senatorial district.
