Impact of Job Satisfaction on Employee's Commitment in an Organization

Abstract
ABSTRACT This study examined the effect of job satisfaction on employee commitment with particular reference to Nigerian Bottling Company PLC. Specifically, the study determined the level of job satisfaction among the staff members, examined the kind of job satisfaction aspects which staff members are satisfied with and examined the relationship between job satisfaction dimensions and employee commitment. Purposive sampling technique was employed to select one hundred and fifty (150) respondents, while a structured questionnaire was used to collect data. Data analysis was performed with the aid of simple percentage, mean, frequency. Standard Deviation, Chi-square, and Correlation. Study established that the level of job satisfaction among the staff of NBC Plc is below expectation, while working environment was ranked highest among the factors influencing job satisfaction in NBC Plc. Study also confirmed that job satisfaction dimensions have significant relationship with employee commitment. The study therefore concluded that employee commitment emerged as a determinant of job satisfaction. Subsequently, the study recommended that management should review the salary upwardly on yearly basis. This will enable staff members to concentrate on their job for effective delivery. Also, management should organize in-service training, workshop and seminar for the staff members on a regular basis on how to improve on their profession.
