Impact of Teachers Competence on Students Achievement in Economics. a Study of Some Selected Schools in Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State

Abstract
This study examined the impact of competent teachers on students’ achievement in economics. The study utilised a survey research design which involved ninety (90) secondary school students in Ago Iwoye, Ijebu North, Ogun State. Descriptive Statistics and Independent t-test was used for analysis.The findings of this study revealed that there is significant impact on teachers’ competence on student achievement in economics. This implies that there is significant relationship between teachers’ competence and student’s achievement in economics, with students in Methodist High School, Itamerin Comprehensive High School and Ago-Iwoye Secondary School, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.Finally, the study found out some problems that face the academic life of students which include: lack of interest, poor socio-economic background and illiteracy. The study recommends that Government should make provisions for their educational stability, students should comply with their teachers in the classroom, teachers should establish an order of standard behavior so that students can know what to expect of them.
