Abstract
This study explores the factors influencing investment decisions among women entrepreneurs in Ungoggo Local Government Area, Kano State, Nigeria. Based on data collected from 100 respondents through structured questionnaires, the research examines how financial literacy, access to capital, institutional support, and socio-cultural dynamics shape investment behavior. The findings highlight that limited financial knowledge and restricted access to formal credit remain major barriers to sound investment decision-making. Although informal savings groups offer some support, they are insufficient for business scalability. Moreover, mentorship and advisory services emerged as critical non-financial enablers, while socio-cultural norms, including gender roles and family responsibilities, continue to restrict women's autonomy in financial decisions. The study concludes that women entrepreneurs in Ungoggo possess strong entrepreneurial potentials but are hindered by systemic constraints that limit their growth and sustainability. To address these challenges, the study recommends a multidimensional approach: expanding community-based financial literacy programs, reforming credit systems to accommodate non-traditional collateral, institutionalizing mentorship structures, and promoting gender-inclusive policy reforms. Additionally, grassroots advocacy and engagement with community leaders are essential to dismantle cultural barriers and foster an enabling environment for women-led enterprises. Empowering women entrepreneurs through these strategies is not only crucial for their personal advancement but also vital for inclusive economic development in Nigeria.
