Abstract
This research work is designed to investigate the "Assessment of the Implementation of Universal Basic Education Programme in Junior Secondary Schools in Ila Local Government, Osun State". This is to enable the researcher suggest measure that would solve the problem "Assessment of the Implementation of Universal Basic Education Programme in Junior Secondary Schools in Ila Local Government, Osun State". The use of questionnaire and interviewing methods was adopted to get the information required. The population of the study was made up of one hundred and twenty students and twenty teachers. From a population of 352 a sample size of 120, were drawn using simple random sampling technique. A structured questionnaire which was validated by experts was used to collect data for the study. The reliability of the instrument was carried out using Cronbach's Alpha and this yielded a reliability index of 0.75. The data collected was analyzed using mean score. The result showed that use of the right teaching methods and adequate use of instructional material helps in improving universal basic education programme in junior secondary schools. It was concluded that classroom control and management should ensure efficiency in the teaching method that is used and adequate discipline and control among students. It was recommended that teacher should encourage pupils rather than criticizing them, the schools need guidance counselors to advice the students and teachers on vital issues affecting them, parents should take more interest in children's welfare and provide good citizen, and government should ensure that adequate facilities and instruments materials available in schools.
