Abstract
ABSTRACTThis study examines how traditional Nigerian clothing fosters social and cultural unity, focusing on the Hausa-Fulani, Yoruba, and Igbo ethnic groups. It traces the evolution and significance of these attires from pre-colonial times to the present and explores how they can bridge cultural divides and promote unity. The research highlights how traditional clothing reflects cultural identity and the potential for blending ethnic styles into modern fashion. It addresses challenges such as cultural stereotypes and lack of awareness that impede unity through fashion. Findings suggest that integrating traditional elements with contemporary design can enhance inclusivity and celebrate cultural diversity. Recommendations include increasing awareness about traditional attires, encouraging collaboration among designers, and using fashion illustration to showcase cultural richness. The study concludes that fashion can be a powerful tool for promoting social cohesion and cultural pride in Nigeria.
