Abstract
This study examines the intricate relationship between political corruption and rural underdevelopment in Obubra Local Government Area, with a focus on identifying the causal mechanisms and consequences of this relationship. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining a survey research design. A 15-item questionnaire was administered to 360 respondents. The data collected was analyzed using Chi-square test. The results revealed a significant positive correlation between political corruption and rural underdevelopment in Obubra L.G.A, with corruption perpetuating underdevelopment and vice versa. The study's findings highlight the need for anti-corruption measures and good governance practices to promote rural development in the area. The study contributes to the existing body of knowledge on political corruption and rural underdevelopment, providing insights for policymakers, development practitioners, and researchers seeking to address these complex issues.
