Effect of Climate Change on Theprofitability of Cassava Production in Ekiti State, Nigeria

Abstract
ABSTRACTThis study examined the effect of climate change on the profitability of cassava productionin Ekiti State, Nigeria, with a focus on the socio-economic characteristics of respondents,their level of participation, and the challenges they face. The study used primary datacollected through a well-structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive anddescriptive statistics. The results showed that the effect of climate change on theprofitability of cassava production efforts in the area are largely driven by male inhabitants,who tend to be fairly educated and have moderate household sizes. The study identifiedfarming experience, size of farm, land acquisition, corporative member, formal training,household size, source of income, primary occupation, source of income as key factorsinfluencing the effect of climate change while age, gender, level of education, farm location,access to extension were found to be major obstacles to effective climate change. The studyrecommends the development of awareness and education programs, strengthening ofinstitutional frameworks, and provision of access to technology and resources to support theeffect of climate change on the profitability of cassava production and enhance the effect of climate changes in the study area.
