Abstract
ABSTRACTThis study examines the influence of social media on the academic performance of students in the School of Management Studies, Kano State Polytechnic. The rapid growth of social networking platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, and X (Twitter) has significantly changed how students communicate, access information, and engage in learning activities. While these platforms offer opportunities for academic collaboration and knowledge sharing, they also pose distractions that can negatively affect students’ concentration and study habits. The research adopted a descriptive survey design, with data collected from a sample of students across various departments within the School of Management Studies. A structured questionnaire was used to gather information on students’ patterns of social media usage, purpose of use, and its perceived effects on their academic performance. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics and simple percentage methods.
