Abstract
ABSTRACT This study outlines the production of a standard newspaper, which focuses on hard news and is distinct from tabloid or broadsheet formats. Our newspaper, News Star, aims to enhance the development of better individuals, journalists, and media professionals, with a strong emphasis on social responsibility. It serves not only the students of Kaduna Polytechnic but also students in other higher institutions across Nigeria. Our newspaper represents a culmination of classroom experiences applied to real-world practice. Achieving professionalism in this project was not accidental, but a result of consistent classroom engagement and the guidance of dedicated lecturers. The challenges and hard work we encountered during production were worthwhile, leading to valuable methodological insights that we hope will benefit society. Through this process, we learned that a successful newspaper requires a solid journalistic foundation, evidenced by quality editorial content. Researching the interests and potential success of our newspaper was key, and we are proud of the final product we have produced. In conclusion, we recognize that producing a professional newspaper requires strong guidance, motivated students, and a genuine interest in the project. We recommend that project coordinators assess students’ intellectual readiness before approving them for newspaper production projects, as this task demands commitment and effort.
