Abstract
ABSTRACT The study on DPPH Antioxidant activity, Antimicrobial Evaluation and Photochemical screening yielded interesting results. The results of antimicrobial activity of Rosemary essential oil on test organisms Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Candida albicans with zone of inhibition 13.00 ± 2.00mm, 11.00 ± 1.00mm and 2.50 ± 2.50mm respectively while the results of DPPH antioxidant activity of Rosemary essential oil mean percentage are as follows at 20µg/mL, 40µg/mL, 60µg/mL, 80µg/mL and 100µg/mL are 30.00 ± 0.00%, 26.60 ± 0.16 %, 72.00 ± 012%, 25.70 ± 0.16% and 26.00 ± 0.81% respectively. The qualitative phytochemical screening of Rosmarinus officinalis essential oil extract shows that alkaloids, polysaccharide/starch, saponins, phenolic compounds, steroids, flavonoids are present in Rosemary essential oil. Rosemary essential oil extract has excellent medicinal, therapeutic and ethnomedical properties.
