An Evaluation of Students Awareness of New Media Technologies for Educational Purpose (a Study of Auchi Polytechnic Students)

Abstract
ABSTRACT This study evaluates students' awareness of new media technologies usage for educational Purpose. Five research questions guided the researcher in order to obtain her data. This study was essentially cross-sectional descriptive survey and data used for analysis were collected with structured questionnaire together with in-depth interviews. 281 respondents' were randomly drawn to constitute the sample size. Data obtained were statistically treated using descriptive statistics and frequencies. Results of the analysis indicated that the respondents are aware and are knowledgeable about the existence of the new media technology devices, especially mobile telephone, Internet, laptop computer, ete, which are readily available in the Polytechnic; the respondents use the devices for a wide range of digital activities, which include information gathering, academic research, entertainment, etc. This calls for more concerted efforts on the part of the managers of Nigerian Polytechnics to make e-learning technology more accessible to students at alI levels.
