Abstract
ABSTRACTThe application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in construction is gaining attention as a means to enhance sustainability, particularly in regions like Kano State, where environmental and developmental challenges persist. The aim of the study is to evaluate the role of Artificial Intelligence in enhancing sustainable construction practices. The research is structured around three key objectives: to assess the relevance of AI in the construction industry, to assess its applications in sustainable construction, and to determine its influence on sustainable construction outcomes. A quantitative research design was adopted, utilizing structured questionnaires distributed to 61 construction professionals. Data for the first and second objectives were analyzed using mean scores and standard deviation, revealing strong agreement among respondents on the relevance of AI in enhancing productivity, project monitoring, decision-making, and safety. Similarly, AI applications such as predictive analytics, smart energy systems, and automated design tools were identified as major contributors to sustainable practices. The third objective was analyzed using regression analysis, which showed a statistically significant positive relationship between AI adoption and improvements in environmental, economic, and social dimensions of sustainability. These findings highlight AI as a vital tool for driving innovation and achieving sustainability in the construction sector. The study concludes by recommending increased investment in AI technologies, capacity building, and supportive policy frameworks to fully harness its benefits for sustainable development in Kano State.
