Abstract
ABSTRACT This study examined the economic and social impact of Tourism in the case of Ashes (Iho Eleeru Cave), Isarun Ondo State, Nigeria. Specifically, the study examined and compare the effects of tourism development on the selected case study site and also to contribute to future policy and practice in promoting rural tourism development in a more sustainable way. The sample of the study consisted of 100 respondents were randomly selected from the local residents of Isarun, Ondo State. Random sampling technique was used to administered the questionnaire. The findings show that, tourism helps to develop local economy. That rural tourism related activities have contributed to the development of localities around Iho Eleeru cave region. Based on the findings the study therefore recommended that government should endeavour to develop and manage tourism centres effectively, that adequate security should be provided for the tourist and the tourism centres. That tourism sectors’ of the state should be properly funded by the government so that the potential tourist sites can be developed and maintained.
