Abstract
ABSTRACT This study investigates the effect of collaborative learning on students’ performance in teaching matrices among senior secondary school students in municipal local government. The population of students in municipal local government is 10,942 and the study sample consists of 378 students, drawn from four selected schools using the stratified random sampling technique. The selected schools include two male and two female schools, ensuring representation of both genders. The research was conducted independently, without the assistance of school teachers, to assess the direct impact of collaborative learning on student performance. Data was collected using a pre-test and post-test design, and the reliability of the instrument was established through test-retest with a Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.845, indicating a high level of consistency at the 0.01 significance level. The findings suggest that collaborative learning has a positive impact on students’ performance in matrices, with significant improvements observed in their post-test scores.
